Reconversion (demolition) of a brick warehouse in Kortemark

At the end of 2010 WVI and the municipality of Kortemark bought an old Wienerberger site, consisting of a shed, paved outdoor storage area and fallow land. The former brick shed and the paved outdoor storage area are currently being used by the municipality's technical department. This will be relocated so that the entire site can be developed as a business park for SMEs. In the design phase, the potential of reusing the former brick shed as well as the paved area will be investigated.

WVI investigates a number of aspects with a view to the further development and filling-in of the site.
1) There is an old brick shed on the site. The shed will be demolished. It will be examined whether materials can be recovered and/or whether the shed itself can be reused at another location/for other purposes.
2) In order to further develop the site into a business park, new roads will have to be constructed. WVI is investigating whether it is possible to break up the existing paving on the site and reuse it to build this infrastructure. It is also investigating whether it is possible to use any demolition materials from the existing shed for this purpose.
The results of both the above-mentioned research processes will be documented and made known via an overall report after provisional completion of the industrial estate. This report will certainly be made known via the GDCB. And, upon delivery, also via the WVI website, a press event, etc.
3) Finally, WVI also wishes to apply circular principles to the rest of the site. The following topics, among others, will be examined: collective water buffering, construction and/or maintenance of collective green zones, thorough site management (follow-up of building files, economic activation, etc.), alternative land allocation, renewable energy and economical use of space (both vertically and horizontally).
