Many agricultural crops used in the food industry provide large quantities of starchy residual streams. The STACKS project focuses on potato cultivation and processing. After all, almost half of the potatoes grown do not reach the consumer. Moreover, when processing the potatoes that do reach the consumer, a lot of starchy residual streams inevitably remain, which are currently often fermented.
With our project, we want to use these potato surpluses and residual flows for the development of new bio-ecological materials, with special attention for the building sector. In cooperation with our partners, we are testing possible applications for these (building) materials and investigating the extent to which the various components of these (building) materials can in turn be recycled.
