Artificial Intelligence helps selective demolition

The Demolition Indicator performs automatic material recognition in the facades of buildings. By applying deep learning/AI to photos of buildings, the system makes an estimate of the materials from which the façade is built and makes a recommendation as to whether the building elements would provide more value if they were demolished selectively. The Sloopwijzer thus helps to draw up demolition inventories and motivates companies and private individuals to demolish selectively.

The Demolition Indicator is developed by VITO in close collaboration with partner Immoterrae and stakeholders VCB, Tracimat, FLOOW2 (supplier Werflink), BOPRO and the City of Leuven.
