The Archelier is a new link in the value network, necessary to realise the transition to the circular economy. As 'Interdisciplinary Circular Architecture Laboratory' or ICAL, it will work in a complementary way: support architects and building teams in their choices regarding circular construction. After all, in the classical practice of architecture, there seems to be little time and space to expand the range of tasks with research into circular building. That is why the Archelier, as a new link, is essential.
The aim of the project is double. On one side it's organisational: by setting up "the Archelier" (Architecture + Studio), a business model based on interdisciplinary partnerships is tested in practice. On the other side it's practical: by setting up a pilot project "the 10" together with the Archelier, the project aims to tackle the pressing issue of circular building nodes. By shedding light on good and bad practices and on existing or still-to-be-developed solutions, the project will inspire the Flemish building actors to innovate and make the transition to circular construction.
The project will challenge the traditional role of the architect and develop credible, practice-based and widely supported solutions for the circular construction sector.
