CIRCU L'AIR

AG Stadsontwikkeling Leuven renovates 3 studios at great height

On Fonteinstraat in Leuven, there is an apartment building dating from 1960. It contains, among others, three obsolete studios of about 40 m². They are in need of thorough renovation. Autonomous Municipal Company of Leuven City Development (AGSL) wants to realise this as sustainably as possible. After all, the City of Leuven has the ambition to work towards becoming a climate-neutral city by 2030. And AGSL is committed to contributing to that goal.

The renovation project was given the name Circu l'air, because it involves circular renovation at great height: in an apartment building! The focus of circular renovation is on:
- quality and habitability: in terms of insulation, ventilation and fire safety, the renovated studios must meet current standards; and attention must also be paid to a healthy and pleasant indoor climate/acoustics;
- reusability and/or reuse:
   > re-usability: that materials to be installed can be disassembled so that they can be used again in the future;
   > reuse: making use of old materials that are present in studios or in the region (urban mining) when renovating.

AGSL found an architect to design and coordinate Circu l'air. The studios should be completely finished and ready for occupancy this year.
